The Dance of Joy

She stands alone

Her soul telling her it’s time

Her emotions overpowering her

Hurt, anger, fear, emptiness, guilt

Love, you ask?

She’s given it all away

Saved nothing for herself

She needs to find the child within her, the one that can laugh, sing and dance

Barefoot her body sways to the music of the drum

The feather carries the smoke towards her

Giving her the energy of each one of her sisters in the circle

Her healing journey is just beginning

The drums vibrating carry the music into each part of her body

Barefoot her earth-dance frees her heart

She twirls around and around

The rain gently falls caressing her giving her back the tears she had lost so long ago

With arms outstretched she catches rose petals in her hands

Laughing and singing she twirls around and around as she dances the dance of joy

She laughs, she sings, she twirls around and around as she dances the dance of joy

Journey

Today I walked a different path

I opened my heart

And viewed the world around me

With love and compassion

And the gift that I received was greater than even I could imagine

There was no anger, hate or fear on my path

Only the beauty of our creator

Not to guide me or to show me the way

But to be there to support me

And as I reached my destination

A celebration of praise

Laughter and song

Was waiting for me

Today I walked a different path

And my heart is better for it

I am Walking

 If my face seems tense

If I look too serious

Maybe even angry

If I move quickly past you

Without even a glance in your direction

I am walking out my problems

When you look at me

And see the smile on my face

When we share in each other’s laughter

I am walking into joy

If my face is peaceful

My surroundings serene

If my hands are clasp to my bosom

I am walking through the Gates of Heaven

Stone Angel

A Custodian clears the walkway the storm has passed and the snow has settled inviting his shovel to make a path

His body slightly bent his brow sweaty

Determination in each thrust he knows he has a job to do

Here you stand just as weathered

Tall and straight

The greyness of the day leaves you looking cold

Your porcelain skin lined and cracked

The elements have not been kind

The branches from the giant oak behind you reach out like arms holding a comb scraping and tugging and now your hair looks thin as the lines of definition have faded

The trees from your youth have matured

Against this backdrop you seem to withdraw

The old custodian sits on the bench beneath you to rest

As the sun peeks out from the clouds and momentarily settles upon you

He gazes up at you

Now seeing a smile that has never lost its character

A tint of rose in your cheeks

And the way your hair gently falls into your eyes

You remind him of her

He visits you more since he lost her

His memories so powerful as if she were still here sitting beside him laughing, enjoying his company as she always said she did

Observing you he finds you even more breathtaking as time has imparted qualities upon you that only time can

He has shared everything with you

Bared his soul

He knows you will keep his secrets

His grief some days so overwhelming

Today your presence comforts him

Today my Stone Angel you bring warmth to a park bench for a lonely old man

Baptism

Pen in hand

Stirring a cauldron

Old emotions rising to the top

Bubbling, frothing, steaming

Putrid concoction that is me

I had hidden these emotions away

And now hate, fear, doubt

All rising to the top

And feeling each one again has depressed me

I gave them power

Allowing them to steal my confidence

Seething they will consume me

I must cleanse the wounds they have left me

Bathing myself in the purity of the cool water that remains

Baptism

For this cauldron contains the hopes and dreams of a child

The confidence and beauty of a young women

The maturity and wisdom of a wife

I shall immerse myself in kindness, love and faith

My iridescent soul singing salvation

Able to see the world with my heart

Red Plaid Pyjamas

Red plaid pyjamas

Plaid slippers

Old worn plaid blanket

Keeping me warm as I peer out the frosted window

Nose cold

Pine boughs weighted heavily with snow

Deadwood jutting out from the forest floor snow clinging to its sides twenty feet or more

Same thickness from earth to sky

Red ribbons blowing in the wind

Will soon be buried under the drifting snow waist high

Black-capped chickadees and blue jays gather round the feeder singing their winter song

A downy woodpecker an acrobatic forager balances from the suet feeder swinging to and fro but not for long

As a playful squirrel joins the group searching for peanuts under the snow

This is the Boreal Forest come to life

A place where sweetgrass and cattails sleep for the winter

Hibernating until spring to grow

And as the sun rises from the edge of the frozen lake

A crystal ice palace this storm did make

Gleaming sunlight luminous sparkles

This wonderland beckons me to take a break

On with my kamiks and out to play

I’m making plaid snow angels today
